A day off work today (still got 18 days holiday left to take this year!).
Went to the cinema to see Christmas Carol in 3D. Got soaked in the rain on the way there (typical - had I left 10 minutes earlier of later there would have been no rain - it just rained at that exact moment just to soak me).
I wasn`t particularly fussed about the film itself byt fancied some decent 3D cinema. And it was very well done. Scrooge`s craggy face looked great as did most of the film. But this particular version wasn`t that great. It certainly wasn`t bad either but it wasn`t a patch on the Muppet Christmas Carol. It must be pretty demoralising as a film-maker when the Muppets make a better film than you do!
For some reason the ghost of Christmas past was a candle with a bad Irish accent and a strange bobbling/twitchy head. The ghost of Christmas Present was Jim Carey doing his best Brian Blessed impression and the ghost of Christmas still to come was a skeletal shadow, which was rather creepy, as were several other parts of the film that may well have been rather scary for young children. The bit where the ghost of Jacob Marely`s jaw snapped of and left his tongue lolling around as he tried to talk was pretty grim, especially for a PG film!
Anyway, I expect I will be going to the cinema less in the future becasue a)I have Lovefilm to keep to going on stuff I miss b) prices have gone up yet again and c) some of the decent seats at my local Vue have been replaced by VIP seating which is basically a way to screw you out of even more money; a peak time weekend viewing in a decent seat of a 3D film now costs over £10. Over £11 if you want an Over 18`s screening, something I still object to (why should I pay more for the cinema staff to do their job and keep people from talking during the film? If their customers or their customer`s children do not know how to behave in public, then throw them out without a refund - perhaps the message may eventually sink in). At these sorts of prices I might as well go to a really good cinema in London.

So much for posting here more often. I really have lost the energy to do such things. In fact I seem to have lost the energy to do most things.
One thing I know is that house hunting is not enjoyable. At least not when you face the prospect of huge debt for the rest of your life just to get one extra bedroom that you don`t need in a house in what should be a nicer area depending on whether you are moving next door to the chav family from hell (too many areas round here claim to be nicer than where I am at the moment but still seem to suffer from general antisocial behaviour)
Recently I have started a subscription to www.lovefilm.com in order to reduce my monthly Blu-Ray and DVD buying costs. Not to mention less trips to the cinema. So far I am about 2 weeks into a 3 month free trial (found the right codes to get a 3 month trial rather than their standard one month). Plus they extended it by 2 weeks due to all the delays I had faced because of the postal strikes (in fact I had only had my first discs 2 days when I got this extension and hadn`t been inconvenienced in the slightest, but who am I to argue). So far I am impressed with their service. Disc turnaround is a very quick 3 days (from watching one to getting the replacement land on my doormat). When it comes time to pay I won`t continue with the top package that I am currently on (2 discs at a time) but will certainly consider sticking at 2 at a time. That`s assuming I have anything left to watch in 3 months time, I am getting through them so fast!
