Website Updates

 Monday 9 Apr 2007, 12:00 AM

Arthur has spent the lovely, sunny Easter weekend shut in a dark room making a variety of updates to his website. Some of the changes have been behind the scenes (such as upgrading from ASP.Net version 1.1 to 2.0) and won`t be noticable to the end user but Arthur has also taken the opportunity to make a few changes to the front end as well.

In particular he has tidied things up a bit on a few pages and added DVD types to his DVD collection in preparation for the arrival of HD-DVD (more on this soon hopefully!). Arthur may even add all his old Laserdiscs to the page as well, just for completeness!

Unfortunately, as with all major updates, there are a few gremlins in the works and some pictures may not be displayed properly and the odd page may give an error. Arthur will get round to fixing these sometime soon but for the moment he is going out for some fresh air and to go shopping for some food so he has something to eat for the coming week.

High Definition DVD

Tuesday 3 Apr 2007, 12:00 AM Thoshiba HD-E1 HD DVD player

On Friday Arthur finally ordered his HD-DVD player. It is a basic entry level Toshiba player but is supposed to perform very well. Arthur also ordered some HD-DVDs at the same time.

The probelm is that whilst all the discs have arrived the player has not and thus he has nothing to play them on. He orered the player from Play.com, usually a very reliable company. The player was listed as being in stock on Friday morning when he ordred it. It was still in stock all weekend. It was in stock all of Monday as well, yet Arthur`s player was not sent out. And when Arthur checked this morning, guess what... it was now out of stock. Rather annoying when the site said it would be delivered within 24 hours.

Arthur even rushed to get his HDMI cable attached to his projector ready for its arrival which was no easy task as it involved emptying his spare bedroom and pulling up the floorboards so he could drill a new hole though his living room ceiling to get to the projector.

Now Arthur has to sit back and wait until it arrives back in stock, which could take forever. And even then there`s no guarantee they won`t just ignore his order again. He very much suspects he will be cancelling his order and going elsewhere if they don`t get a move on.
