The Plasma Screen

Panasonic TH42PWD6 Plasma screen

Arthur has 2 displays for use within his home cinema; a plasma screen and a video projector. The plamsa screen is typically used for day to day use (watching high quality televison programming such as Neighbours) whilst the projector is better for watching films.

The plasma screen is a Panasonic Th42PWD6. This is a few years old now and is a standard definiton set (i.e. not High Definition). Arthur thinks it will take a few more years for High Definition formats to get settled so it didn't really seem worthwhile splashing out lots of money for an expensive high definition panel.

The panel is connected to the Yamaha Amplifier via a component video cable. This cable has been specially made and has the standard YUV phono connections on one end but has a VGA conection of the other to make use of the plasma panel's on board VGA connection which can be setup to acceot a component video signal.

Things Arthur likes about this panel are that it has flexible connections (you can purchase plug in connection boardsthat fit your requirements - Arthur's panle has a SCART board which is used with the Gamecube), it has good black levels and is well priced. The only downside is that it sometimes gives off too much infra red light and keeps adjusting Arthur's remote control lighting!
